Law enforcement in Sacramento are investigating Sacramento County Sheriff shooting investigation a gunfire incident that took place late Saturday at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area as law enforcement were dispersing an unauthorized event of an estimated several hundred individuals.
Before the Gunfire
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies first arrived at Howe Park just after half past six in the evening after being notified of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Shortly after, another report was received describing a possible fight happening at Howe Park.
Aerial units was sent to survey the area but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Despite this, authorities discovered that hundreds of people had gathered without authorization without authorization.
When the Shots Rang Out
Law enforcement personnel set about removing people from the park by surrounding the park and announcing over their public address systems instructing attendees to vacate the area. Roughly 15 minutes were allowed for attendees to disperse.
At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 gunshots cut through the air. The rapid succession of shots sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies immediately began identifying shooting victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
Ultimately, four shooting victims were located with gunshot injuries. The victims — consisting of one woman and three men each apparently in their 20s — were transported to Sacramento area hospitals. Medical personnel stated that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Fortunately, all four victims survived and were stable.
Sacramento Metro Fire were called to the scene and assisted with medical triage those with gunshot wounds prior to hospital transport.
What Investigators Found
The bulk of the shooting was determined to have taken place adjacent to Cottage Way close to the Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Crime scene investigators recovered further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Projectile impacts were also found in the metal fencing adjacent to the Home Depot. These findings pointed to that at least one shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot store. The nearby Home Depot was temporarily locked down during the incident. Crime scene personnel stayed at the location throughout the night.
Arrests Made
Information relayed via scanner audio indicated that a vehicle identified as a Kia had been detained in an area within Solano County. Four suspects were taken into custody. Sacramento law enforcement were dispatched to Solano County to collect the individuals for investigation. Video that was reviewed made clear that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
